London Schools Filmweek Viewing of Far North

As part of London Schools Filmweek we were offered a great opportunity for Post 16 Media students to expose themselves to films that they wouldn’t normally see and introduced them to the idea of independent films. This trip coincides with A Level coursework; year 12 are to produce and independent film trailer, whilst year 13 are making a documentary. The a question and answer session after the film allowed students to gain first hand knowledge and understanding of how a film is produced by film professionals, so any students who have an interest in the working in any area of the film industry can ask questions and learn about the film industry and the process of film making.

I thought the film was a good insight into the life of an Eskimo. It was good to listen to the Q&A session at the endof the movie. It helped us learn techniques for creating great movies. The director talked about how he got the actors involved and how he got them to do the things he wanted in the film.

Overall I enjoyed this film, mostly because of the exciting twist at the end. It was very unexpected and left me speechless. At first I didn’t think I would like the film as I had never heard of it, but my expectations were proved wrong. The simplicity of the film made it more authentic and it was unique, because there were few main actors or actresses and no special effects or were used.

The Q&A which followed the film viewing was very useful because I discovered the director’s thoughts on the making of the film and found out how he made it.
